“In every company we invest in, we develop programs to generate sustainable value and deliver solutions that help achieve global targets regarding climate change, diversity, equality and wellbeing, responsible supply chains, and governance and compliance”, explained Luis Seguí, co-founder and CEO of Miura Partners, at the latest session of Esade Matins entitled "Beyond returns: Starting a new era of private equity impact".

This private equity firm founded in 2008 manages assets worth €1.5bn, seven multi-strategy funds and, since its foundation, has made more than 60 investments worth more than €3bn. In addition, Miura Partners’ investee companies in recent years have grown more than 226% (up from €560m in 2014 to €1.853bn in 2023).

As Seguí explained, “Here at Miura Partners we’ve established ourselves in Barcelona. We do business in Spain because on the Iberian Peninsula, including Spain and Portugal, there are 3.5 million SMEs: more than in France or the UK. Almost 90% of these SMEs are family firms and account for 60% of Spain’s GDP. In addition, Spain is ideal for expanding into the LatAm market.

A sector with a long-term outlook making a positive impact

During his talk, Seguí provided an overview of the private capital sector, “a sector that enables companies to factor a long-term view into the projects they carry out.” “In the US today, listed companies are fewer in number than the companies invested in by private equity, a trend that has grown exponentially,” he added.

He also highlighted the evolution of Miura Partners since its founding and its commitment to “go beyond returns” by driving sustainability throughout the investment cycle, integrating ESG and sustainability in investee companies, and launching the impact investment strategy.

Consequently, the firm’s impact investment model has focused on three spheres (improving health, empowering society and regenerating the planet) and on establishing a benchmark impact methodology for the market based on international standards and guidelines, whilst linking profits to achieving impact targets, and providing philanthropic support for social and environmental projects.

Esade Matins are gatherings where the leaders of foremost companies and institutions address their own challenges and aims, and reflect upon their careers in their companies. On this occasion, Luis Seguí, co-founder and CEO of Miura Partners, was accompanied by Daniel Sánchez, president of Esade Alumni.
